The Miami Heat is a professional basketball team based in Miami Florida. The Heat were formed in 1988 as an expansion franchise. Since the formation of the team they have made the playoffs 13/21 seasons and captured seven division titles. The Miami Heat won the 2006 NBA finals against the Dallas Mavericks 4-2. The team is currently managed by Pat Riley, the NBA Hall of Fame former Los Angeles Lakers coach. The team is owned by Micky Arison and coached by Erik Spoelstra. 2004-2008 marked the Wade/Shaq era. 2006 proved to be a great year for the Miami Heat. Many criticized the team are being unable to beat the top caliber teams in the NBA. They lost to the defending NBA champion San Antonio Spurs twice and or crushed in a nationally televised broadcast by 36 points by the Dallas Mavericks. The Heat would go on to meet the Mavericks for the NBA finals. They lost the first two games of the series and in a dramatic comeback went on to win the next two games. Game five was one by the Heat in overtime and they went on to win their first NBA championship in game six which was played in Dallas. Shaquille O'Neal, Alonzo Mourning and Dwayne Wade played dramatic roles in the NBA championship. 2006-07 was a disappointing season but in 2007-08 the Miami Heat had the worst record in the NBA. The 2010-11 season finds the Miami Heat in the playoffs again. Dwayne Wade and Lebron James lead the team in another hope for a second NBA championship title. |
